British astronaut Tim Peake has been awarded a Gold Blue Peter badge for his inspirational work with the long-running BBC children's show.

Each year the gold badges are awarded in recognition of 'outstanding achievements, bravery, inspiration and citizenship', and Peake commented 'I can't believe that I now have my very own Gold Blue Peter badge. It's been amazing to have the viewers of Blue Peter so involved with my mission to space. I hope that I have shown them that anything is possible and I can’t wait til they are standing up here in years to come telling their own story of science and exploration'.
